As many of you will know if you are a regular reader, I was a chosen guest editor for 1st Class Fashion for two weeks of November. This was a spectacular privilege to be able to publish my writing somewhere other than on my own platform and you learn a lot through the process. The theme for both posts were "Thankful for Fashion" and I was to write about two influential fashion houses. My first post being on Chanel, and now my second on Dior; so here's a snippet for you all.
"In reflection on my last post on the fashion Maison Chanel, it was only right I continued the theme for this post, looking at one of Chanel’s main competitors: Dior. Christian Dior’s rise to becoming so influential to the fashion industry was in some ways very similar to Coco Chanel’s, yet also worlds away.
Dior and his family were once among the social elites of Paris, until their bankruptcy in 1941 caused Christian to have to work. He landed his first job as a design assistant to LuciĆ©n Lelong in 1941, after working as a freelance designer and selling his couture sketches to other couture houses and publications. It wasn’t until December 1946 that the House of Dior opened, financially backed by Marcel Boussac who was known for being a “control freak”."
