perfectly innocent

This was my shoot this week for my Photography AS homework and for some reason I feel a bit iffy about it but hey. I was trying to portray the contrast between the innocence of the children's toys and the corruption of teenagers who have played with the toys previously in life. I feel these toys give a distorted image of "perfection" and could end up leading to heightened levels of the use coping mechanisms such as alcohol, cigarettes and drugs in teenagers. But hey, I tried. I might redo it today again with Barbies, I'm a tad unsure.

It's insane how much work I have at the moment and only being one week into school it's panicking me a bit. But I will be blogging as much as I can :)  bare with me.

Lots of Love,

  2. Wow! Really disturbing! If you're trying to evoke something by your photos I think you hit the nail on the head!

  4. Really evocative images! I think this works better than Barbies would, because Bratz are supposed to be young 'tweenage' girls, whereas Barbie was always supposed to be either late teens or 'twenty-something'. So seeing alcohol and cigarettes with a Bratz doll is really pointing to the awkward duality of young teenage girls - both wanting to be innocent and child-like (playing with dolls) yet also reaching towards the trappings of adult-hood (the cigarettes and alcohol). It's something that adults often try to ignore, or protest shouldn't be happening, and yet is part of almost all girls' experience of growing up. I really like it Rubes, keep it up! xxx
