Rachell Khoo is a Sydney based fashion buyer and illustrator with a profound sense of style, mainly wearing monochromatic pieces with fluidity and romance. Her outlook on the world is one that captured my eye first with her beautiful snippets of positivity on Instagram. She is a woman we can all learn a lot from.
1. Fashion Buying is your main career, what enticed you into buying first of all?
My passion for style & styling; I love putting ready made designs together to create a character. After all, style manifests personality.
2. What's the driving force behind your fashion illustrations? What influences them?
My love for God & His art work; nature. Everything about nature inspires me, colors & pigments, textures of rocks, leaves, grains of soil & the organic flow through it all.
3. Your style is impeccable and appears to be based mainly around monochromatic pieces that have a very romantic feel, who are a few of your favourite designers and why?
I love colors yet I dress in black & white, I love blending in details than standing out in colors. My favorite designer would be Karl Lagerfeld; his works are wearable art! And of course his influence of black & white. :)
4. What are your inspirations and thoughts when working as both a fashion buyer and illustrator?
I get to immerse myself in both the fashion business world & the art world. I'm learning a lot.
5. You are a Sydney based fashion buyer, did you grow up in Sydney? Tell me more about you.
I grew up in an island called Penang in Malaysia, actually. Came to Australia 7 years to do my double degree in Fashion Design & Advertising. Continued on staying here as I love it here, worked in Advertising, Publishing, Fashion & now Buying & Styling.
6. Lastly, what are your plans for the future and what are you working on right now?
Right now I've just founded a company called Chivalry Menswear, we'll be an online e-boutique; launching in 2014.
Above are some of Rachell's illustatrations from her collection Noel; inspired by winter berries.
