John Lewis Ban Angora Wool

Fur is a sensitive and agonising subject in the fashion industry, it is either loved or hated. My personal stance is that I will always choose faux if possible, but I wear leather and, ultimately, does that differentiate at all from fur?

PETA have recently started combating the outburst of angora wool in clothes due to the harsh treatment of the Angora rabbits involved. Retailers from H&M and ASOS were some of the first to implement a ban after being contacted by PETA and shown the photographs documenting this cruelty.

Now, John Lewis join their ranks quoting:

"[a]s a responsible retailer, John Lewis is committed to ensuring high standards of animal welfare in all stages of the supply chain and we require our suppliers to do likewise. As part of our ongoing programme of supply chain management, we recently contacted suppliers about concerns raised by customers around the sourcing of angora wool. While we found no evidence of unacceptable animal welfare practices, nevertheless we have decided to no longer include angora in future John Lewis own brand or branded products"

Clearly the footage shown by PETA and explicit photographs of animal cruelty have been successful in slowing down the angora industry, but I can't help but wonder: how many people will lose their jobs over this? And will this cause a drastic amount of cruelty to end? Or will this only be pursued by a select few retailers?
