Pregnancy on the Catwalk

Fashion, controversial fashion. It's what I'm all about- finding how to make this industry blossom in ways it has never before. However, only the other day I was struck by the idea of pregnant women on the catwalk. Has it been done before? If so, why haven't I seen it? And why doesn't it happen often?

Pregnant women are and have been an inspiration for artists all over the world for centuries, so why are they not inspirational to our beloved fashion houses? We have seen plus-size models on the catwalk plenty of times, but pregnant women are more than that, they are something almost all women can relate to, as pregnancy is something most women go through.

So, I did my research and found the s/s14 Lingerie fashion week catwalk of You! Lingerie, a brand designed specifically as maternity lingerie, to make fashionable pregnant women feel fashionable again, and sexy too.

Miranda Kerr is also a model who has walked pregnant on the catwalk too, for Balenciaga back in 2010 at Paris Fashion Week. Looking absolutely glowingly healthy and beautifully pregnant, Kerr pulls off high fashion maternity well - so why is this not something that is frequented more?

So, designers, I put it to you: celebrate femininity in more ways! The female form is not just about our size and shape, it is also about how the form changes with nature and with pregnancy; one of the most natural and beautiful things on this world.
